We do not always think about the important place that mineral resources play in our daily lives. Every day that you use your cell phone, drive your car, watch television or drink a soda from an aluminum can there is a mineral somehow involved in the process.

This assignment is meant to help you learn more about the world we live in with respect to what the earth offers as materials to survive and advance the human condition and quality of life. Along the way you will discover where these minerals come from, how much of them are economically accessible and what the environmental impacts of their “cycle” are.

For this Discussion Board assignment choose one non-renewable mineral resource and answer the following:

1.Report where the mineral is found in economically accessible quantities,
2.Report what the current economically accessible reserves are and how long they are expected to last (depletion time),
3.Explain what the mineral is used for and describe at least one example,
4.Discuss one method of how this mineral resource could be used more sustainably and support your discussion with at least one example.

You are required to provide a comprehensive initial post with 3-4 well-developed paragraphs that include a topic sentence and at least 3-5 supporting sentences with additional details, explanations, and examples. In addition, you are required to respond substantively to the initial posts of at least ONE other classmate. All posts should be reflective and well written, meaning free of errors in grammar, sentence structure, and other mechanics.
