This week we will be discussing family structures and their role in society. For the purpose of this paper, we will use the latest episode of the TV show “The Handmaid’s Tale”. Please review the latest episode and write a minimum of two pages covering the following information:
Provide the following information:
1. Name of the program, Title of the episode, Original air date if possible.
Provide an overall summary of the episode in five (5) sentences or less (the focus for this assignment should be on sociological analysis and not on the summary of the actual events of the episode).
2. Analyze how the interaction between the characters, the ways in which the characters are portrayed, and instances of prejudice or discrimination that are exemplified in the episode according to the following (required):
Describe the family structure and roles of the characters.
Racial/ethnic diversity. Who is represented and who isn’t? How are they represented and how does society view them? Please describe interactions how they promote or hinder racial tensions. Give specific examples to support this.
3. Sexuality and gender identity. Who is represented? Heterosexual individuals? LGBTQ individuals? Transgender individuals? Is sexuality even discussed, apparent, or is it assumed? Are people represented in stereotypical ways according to their sexuality or gender identity? Give specific examples to support this.
