These milestones are created to help you build your final project throughout the class as you get feedback from your instructor. This week, you are to locate 5 informational graphics that you will use for your final project. In your final project, you will have at least ten graphics, but these are your first five. Remember that you are creating a persuasive argument about a global issue, so you are looking for graphics that are going to visually enrich your presentation by proving more insightful information and meaning to your audience.
Assignment Requirements
Your milestone will be formatted somewhat differently than your previous milestones, but you’re still thinking through how your evidence connects and supports your thesis statement or research question:
Find five informational graphics. “Informational” means that the graphic provides data or visually supports a point. These are graphs, charts, infographics, maps, and photographs.
Put copies of the graphics in your document.
Directly under the graphic, put a text box with the website where you got your graphic.
This is how you will cite the graphic in your final project.
Graphics only get cited directly below them with a website – if you use other information from the same website, cite the information and the website separately in the References section.
Three-five sentence reaction to the graphic
This is where you write about how the information in the graphic supports your argument or how you are going to use the information. You can comment on the quality of the data, the quality of the analysis, the questions left unanswered, the questions left unasked, or any number of other questions. What you can’t do is just say that you liked it or not. Thinking through how you’re going to use the information now will make putting together your final project easier.
When you discuss how you’re going to use the information, offer specifics from the graphic and cite the specific information as you are reacting to it.
Don’t just repeat the information from the graphic. Analyze the visualization and connect it to your argument.
Please remember that while you have five graphics for this assignment, you need ten graphics at least for your final project. Please look at the final project documents for more information.
